How are the projects of Magna Children at risk chosen and implemented?
Humanitarian projects are aimed at saving lives and alleviating the suffering of those at risk. Armed conflicts and unstable political situation have a devastating impact on ordinary people – direct violence, forced evacuation, epidemics, famine and psychic trauma are the usual effects, often accompanied by disrupted local medical services.
Giving medical and nutrition help to victims of conflicts and crises is the main priority for Magna Children at risk. The suffering joined with infectious diseases, which are often neglected by local governments, is another main part of program aims of Magna Children at risk. The organization has as its aim providing adequate treatment and care to people afflicted by diseases such as HIV/AIDS, TBC, cholera, malaria, Dengue fever and other. Magna Children at risk also reacts to the needs of people who are excluded from access to basic medical care and we also help victims of natural disasters.
Magna´s decision to intervene in times of crisis is based only on our independent evaluation and on the needs of people, not for political, economic religious interests.
The projects are described in detail before they are begun and are evaluated through all time of their operating. Clearly defined quantitative as well qualitative aims can be revised in case of need. The length of time of our intervention is based only on these needs, which are defined and revised in the course of the mission. The projects and needs are evaluated continuously, using a standardized system of data collection, plus continuously made studies.
Magna is determined to secure that its help is received really by those to whom it is addressed. For this reason we insist that our field workers must have access to medical institutions, must communicate with people directly on the spot and thus independently judge the needs of giving help.
Magna Children at risk implements and runs most of its projects independently. In rare cases we can provide financial support also to other humanitarian organizations, community groups or medical institutions with which we cooperate in a certain region.
What principles are applied in the use of your contributions?
Please, keep in mind that Magna Children at risk uses a part of all received private donations, including those restricted to concrete projects, for fundraising and administrative costs and always strives to keep these expenses at the minimum so that at least 80 % of your donation goes to the projects. In case we are not able to use your contribution according to your wish (e.g. in case of ending a project or the contributions exceed the needs for a concrete project), we shall contact you and discuss with you the further use of your donation for helping people in need. Magna Children at risk will never extend its activity just for the purpose of using the financial means assigned to a concrete project.
In the period 2003 - 2008 Magna Children at risk has allocated at least 85 % of the received funds on humanitarian and development projects.
Will I, as a donor, have the chance to co-decide to whom my contribution goes?
